Ways of Working – Let’s Not Forget Where We Were Before Covid-19!

Many of us were hybrid working before the pandemic – even if it was one day a fortnight and informal. We also had policies and legislation supporting flexible working. So where we find ourselves now isn’t new, but it is of a different scale.

The covid pandemic crystallised home working, forcing many of us to adopt different working practices, at home not in the office. But let’s not forget that this was meant to be temporary. Whole scale working from home was never meant to be a permanent solution.

We now need pragmatic, sensible solutions that suit both businesses and individuals. At ThinkingHR we believe that we should be migrating back to hybrid working patterns, wherever practicable.

And why be in an office, or formal place of work? Connections are so much easier -walking round to someone’s desk, chatting by the coffee machine, going for a walk at lunchtime. Establishing a community, getting to know each other, bouncing ideas and establishing engagement are much more difficult in a fully virtual world – not impossible, just more difficult!

Where we can adopt a hybrid way of working, we should treat it as a privilege  (maybe like we did before the pandemic) and we must not forget that not everyone can do it. Remember you can’t WFH if you’re on a production line, in a shop, driving public transport – the list goes on…..
