Keep it simple!
Simplicity is one of the four key values of ThinkingHR, the others being Thinking, Curiosity and Trust. These values underpin the ways of working and intent at Thinking HR. We ask questions, we think, we offer simple, practical solutions and we establish trust.
Do we sometimes lose track of what we mean by simple solutions and over-engineer outcomes?
How often do you encounter the “peacock syndrome” Look at me! Aren’t I clever, I’ve developed a performance management system with over 50 variables! No you’re not if no-one really understands what you’ve delivered or wants to use it!
We believe that “simple is best”, there is no need to overcomplicate things. Overcomplication is not smart, it’s onerous – so let’s avoid it!
“Keep it simple” is a principle that advocates simplicity in problem-solving, design, communication and application. It means avoiding unnecessary complexity and focusing on the essentials.
Let’s look at the advantages of keep it simple:
- Clarity: Simple solutions are easier to understand and communicate. This reduces the chances of misunderstandings and errors.
- Efficiency: By eliminating unnecessary steps and focusing on the core elements, tasks can be completed more quickly and with less effort.
- Cost-effectiveness: Simplicity can result in lower costs, avoiding the need for additional resources and also reduces ongoing maintenance.
- Flexibility: Simple solutions are often more adaptable and easier to modify or scale as needed.
- User-friendliness: In deploying HR practices, simplicity enhances the user experience by making their use more intuitive and accessible. It also helps avoid “HR for HR’s sake”
