Engagement reflections

An insightful day at the Employee Engagement Conference last week.

I focused on recording some quotes from sessions attended and here are some reflections upon them

“You need an equitable environment for as many as possible”.

This was interesting in the context of employee benefits. It’s almost impossible to create a benefits suite that meets all employee expectations so talk to your employees, find out what they prioritise, communicate the findings, engage with them and talk about how you’ve brought your benefits package together. Be honest about the choices made, communicate why these are your benefits, not just what’s on offer.

“Be curious – discover and understand your workforce”

I love the value of curiosity, it’s vital in constructing an HR strategy to understand your workforce through active dialogue. This very much links to the previous point on benefits – ask what your employees value.

“What people say and what people hear are not necessarily the same thing”

For me this emphasizes the value of clarification; just saying something doesn’t mean it’s been properly understood. Ensuring that your message is properly understood is vital, and simple questions like “What do you think?” or “Have you any questions?” can help bridge any communication gaps.

All these points indeed revolve around the concept of employee engagement. An engaged workforce is more productive and contributes positively to both individual and organisational success. By considering equity, being curious, and actively listening to colleagues, you can foster a more engaged and motivated workforce.

Do you have any specific plans or actions in mind to implement these insights in your workplace?
